Songfacts®:

  • "Fri(end)s" is an English-language song where V pours his heart out to a friend. The two have been thick as thieves since 2009, but here's the rub: V wants more. He's tired of this "friend's" malarkey and fancies taking things to a whole new level.
  • The title itself is a bit of a cheeky play on words that comes from the last line of the chorus:

So let's put the "end" in friends

Now, a cynic might think he wants to turn enemies, which wouldn't be ideal, would it? But no, V wants a change in the friendship dynamic. He desires a deeper connection, possibly a romantic relationship.
  • Connor McDonough, Riley McDonough, Ori Rose, Joel Castillo, Melanie Joy Fontana, Michel "Lindgren" Schulz & Salem Ilese wrote "Fri(end)s." The McDonough brothers also produced the track. Other songs on Connor and Riley McDonough's resumé include Joji's "Glimpse Of Us," Mimi Webb's "Red Flags" and Anne-Marie's "Unhealthy."
  • "Fri(end)s" was released on March 15, 2024. South Korea has this mandatory 18-month military service and the song marked V's first music release since he got shipped off for his stint in December 2023. V was assigned to the "Ssangyong Unit" of the 2nd Corps, serving under the Special Task Force of the Military Police Corps.
  • In the music video, V finds himself in two parallel universes: one where he's surrounded by couples all loved-up but utterly alone, and another that has him in a seemingly perfect relationship but everyone else around them looks miserable! It's all a metaphor for V's internal conflict, of course.
