Songfacts®:

  • Several of the songs on A Different Kind Of Truth are based on demos and unrecorded lyrics done by Van Halen in their early days in the 1970s. An earlier version of this throwback riff-rocker was regularly performed by the band during their club days on the Sunset Strip and featured on the 1976 Gene Simmons produced demo that they did for Warner Bros. The breakdown in the middle and near the end of the track was lifted and used for the Fair Warning track "Mean Street." However, the entire song had never been laid down on disc until they recorded the updated version heard on A Different Kind Of Truth. This new rendition was debuted during the band's intimate press show at the Cafe Wha? on January 5, 2012.
  • Speaking to Esquire magazine about recording A Different Kind Of Truth, Eddie Van Halen recalled: "Before we decided to actually make a full record, we said, 'Hey, let's do some old demos.' And we actually recorded three of them already. And I engineered 'She's the Woman,' 'Outta Space' and 'Bullethead,' and it ended up turning into a whole record. But we figured: Why not give fans the era that they liked, you know?"
  • The song's music video features clips from various live performances, including Van Halen's debut performance of the song at Cafe Wha?
