Songfacts®:

  • On this collaborative track, Bebe Rexha teams up with country music legend Dolly Parton to sing about the ever-changing seasons and the desire to break free from bad habits and grow.
  • Rexha pours her heart out in the chorus, contemplating her ups and downs while Parton adds her signature harmonies to the mix. With introspective lyrics like, "I lie awake inside a dream and I run, run, run away from me," Rexha lays her vulnerability bare.

Parton takes over in the second verse, reflecting on the lost innocence of her inner child and the harsh realities of growing up. "My mirror is a liar, inside I'm still a child who's tryin' to find her way back home," she sings, highlighting the universal experience of feeling lost in adulthood.

"It's a cool perspective because you're getting it from her," said Rexha to the Metro newspaper's Guilty Pleasures column, "where she is in her life versus where I'm at in mine... no matter what age you are, you're searching."
  • Bebe Rexha couldn't hold back her emotions when she first heard the iconic Dolly Parton lending her vocals to their duet. The "I'm Good (Blue)," hitmaker had always dreamt of collaborating with the country music legend, and her dream finally came true when Parton agreed to feature on the track.

"We reached out to Dolly and shared the song with her," Rexha told Metro. "Just a week later, she sent us her vocals, and when I heard it for the first time, I burst into tears. It was so emotional to hear my idol's voice on our track."

After Parton recorded her vocals remotely, Rexha had the chance to meet her hero in person. Overwhelmed with emotion, she couldn't help but rave about the experience: "It was everything I expected and more. Dolly is kind and beautiful, both inside and out."
  • Rexha co-wrote the song with New York singer-songwriter Sarah Solovay (Shawn Mendes' "Summer of Love," Jason Derulo's "Take You Dancing") and the track's producer, Ido Zmishlany.
  • "Seasons" serves as the closing track on Bebe Rexha's third studio album. The inspiration for the song came when she began working on the record in December 2021 and found herself playing Fleetwood Mac's timeless classic "Landslide" on repeat. The introspective lyrics about the passage of time and the challenges of aging struck a chord with Rexha, and she used it as a starting point for her own songwriting.

"I was like, 'Guys, I want to write a song about knowing that you need to change, but you're not changing'" Rexha recalled to Rolling Stone. "And I just started singing: 'The seasons change right under my feet. I'm still the same, same, same, same old me.' That's how it all started."
  • The release of "Seasons" came with a simple yet captivating black-and-white music video. The visual features Rexha and Parton singing their duet together while dressed in matching black outfits, before switching to white outfits later in the clip.
  • This isn't Rexha's first foray into country music. She previously collaborated with Florida Georgia Line for their hit song "Meant to Be" back in 2017. That song has since been certified Diamond by the RIAA.
