Songfacts®:

  • The title translates literally to "Where Is Your Heart?" The song is about Shakira asking her lover where he is. In the Latin-American culture, you can use the word "corazón" (heart) to refer to your lover, so by saying "Donde estás corazón," Shakira is asking "Where are you my love?" >>>

  • "Donde Estas Corazon" is part of Shakira's third album, Pies Descalzos, released in 1995 when she was 18. She was still recording only in her native Spanish at this point, but made a stylistic shift, moving to more of a rock sound following her previous albums, which were pop-influenced.
  • Shakira wrote the song with her producer, Luis Fernando Ochoa. The rock vibe is a reflection of the music Shakira was listing to: American acts like Nirvana, Aerosmith and Tom Petty.
  • Recorded in 1994, the song originally appeared on a compilation called Nuestro Rock ("Our Rock") that was issued only in Shakira's native Colombia.
  • "Donde Estas Corazon" was a huge hit in Colombia, persuading Sony Records to let Shakira record an entire album of rock. The result is Pies Descalzos, which translates to "Bare Feet."
  • Shakira's first two albums flopped, so in 1993 she turned to acting, starring in a Colombian soap opera called El Oasis. She was very popular on the show, but not because of her acting ability - a Colombian television magazine named her the "Best Rear End in Television."

Returning to music, she released the Pies Descalzos album, which sold roughly 4 million copies worldwide and got her singing career on track.
  • The first international single from the album was "Estoy Aqui," which landed Shakira on the Hot Latin Songs chart in America for the first time at #2. "Donde Estas Corazon" was released next and went to #5.

  • Armando from Caracas, VenezuelaThis song actually saved her from losing her record deal, after it appeared on the Nuestro Rock compilation, the label liked the new sound and decided not to drop her, it led to the release of her international debut album, her greatest, Pies Descalzos. All of that thanks to her agent (May she rest in peace) Patricia Margarita Téllez, she was the one that pulled out the song.
  • Bernard from Caracas, South AmericaShakira is one of the very few Latin rock female singers who has any quality, she has very creative lyrics...she must still be looking for her boyfriend
  • Casie from Denver, CoIm a 13 yr old girl that knows 5 languages.I lived in a spanish country and omg does she rock,I love her. This isnt my favorite album of hers, actually mt favorite album of hers is Donde estan los ladrones? Meaning where are the robbers. She rocks, she is so talented, nobody would have a voice so great,I mean a lil difference with Christina Aguilera but she is fantastic. In this song it explains that her boyfriend is gone and she looks for him everyway and she is worried and she thinks that she was his problem, that she wasnt enough for him so she is broken hearted.
