Songfacts®:

  • There's something gloriously defiant about a song that waves a proud banner for life's misfits and outcasts, and "Losers" is just that - a rousing anthem for the underdog. Post Malone and Jelly Roll give a middle finger to society's rigid expectations and a bear hug to anyone who's ever felt left out.
  • If ever there were two artists suited to champion the outsiders, it's Post Malone and Jelly Roll. Both have built careers on their not-quite-fitting-in personas - Post Malone, with his tattooed face, genre-defying sound, and habit of crooning in a way that leaves hip-hop purists clutching their pearls; and Jelly Roll, with his rough-around-the-edges demeanor that makes Nashville traditionalists nervous.

They've both spent ample time wrestling with their own demons, openly discussing their battles with addiction, mental health, and the persistent feeling of not quite belonging - a cocktail of challenges that has seeped into their music and struck a chord with listeners who, likewise, don't see themselves reflected in the glossy, perfect world of mainstream success.

"Losers" harnesses these raw personal histories as fuel, crafting a tune that's both defiant and oddly comforting.
  • Malone recorded "Losers" for his first country album, F-1 Trillion. While the album title might suggest a focus on wealth and success, the overall theme explores a broader range of themes like resilience, individuality, and the need for community.
  • Malone wrote the downtrodden anthem with F-1 Trillion producers Louis Bell and Charlie Handsome, along with Nashville songwriters Ashley Gorley, Ernest, Joe Reeves and Chandler Walters. Jelly Roll didn't contribute to the writing.

Ashley Gorley has been churning out hits for country heavyweights since he wrote Carrie Underwood's "Don't Forget to Remember Me" back in 2006. He's since become the go-to hit machine for the likes of Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, Thomas Rhett, and Morgan Wallen.

Ernest has lent his writing chops to a slew of country's chart-toppers, including Jelly Roll, for whom he co-produced "Son Of A Sinner." He's also a solo artist and is a featured performer on Morgan Wallen's hit "Cowgirls."

English producer Joe Reeves regularly teams up with Charlie Handsome. Their credits together include Lil Durk and Morgan Wallen's "Broadway Girls" and Thomas Rhett's "Gone Country."

Chandler Walters is an Ernest protégé and former guitarist in his band. He contributed to three tracks on Bailey Zimmerman's debut album, Religiously, and four songs on F-1 Trillion, including "I Had Some Help."
